Commuter cars and half-tons from a growing town
Carstairs has close to 5,000 people now and a lot of them commute to Airdrie or Calgary every day. That commute is hard on vehicles, and we see the results: a Ford Focus with a failed transmission, a Kia Sorento with an engine that started knocking, a Ram 1500 that rusted from underneath. From the farms around town we get the heavier stuff, including three-quarter-ton trucks and the occasional grain truck. Weight drives our pricing, so a pickup or SUV will be worth more than a compact car. Vehicles with a working catalytic converter, alloy wheels and an intact engine earn the top of the range.
Trailers and quads are not what we do, but if a truck you are scrapping has a toolbox, a headache rack or a canopy still on it, leave them; they add weight and sometimes parts value. If you want to keep any of that gear, take it off before we arrive and let us know so the price reflects what is left.
