Junk car removal in Calgary, once you've decided it's done

Junk car removal in Calgary is free with us, and we pay you cash for the car. The harder part comes first: is a repair worth it, or has this vehicle reached the end? Here is how to tell.

Ready? Ring 403-991-7717, 9am to 9pm daily, or request a callback through the form on this page. Cash offers are made over the phone; we send a flatbed from our south-east Calgary yard and pay up to $10,000 before the truck leaves, depending on the vehicle. Need it gone fast? In many cases a same-day tow can be arranged, depending on your area and when you call.

TESTIMONIALS

Is it junk? Deciding before you book junk car removal in Calgary

Three things settle most cases: the repair maths, the vocabulary, and what to take out first.

Repair or junk: comparing the quote to the car

Get a written repair estimate and guess honestly what the car would sell for once fixed. If the repair eats most of that, it is junk to you. Collision damage, a worn-out transmission or a seized engine are the usual reasons the numbers stop working. Age is a factor too: on older compact cars, or a high-kilometre minivan or cargo van, one big repair can cost more than the whole thing is worth. Two situations in this province often settle it. One is an out-of-province inspection: a vehicle bought elsewhere in Canada must pass before it can be registered here, the owner pays for the inspection, and after a fail repairs must be done within 10 days or a new full inspection is needed. The other is an insurance total loss. A vehicle the insurer declares salvage needs a Salvage Vehicle Inspection before re-registration, and passing makes its status rebuilt for good. Read what to do when a car fails an Alberta inspection.

Junk, scrap and salvage in plain terms

The three words get used loosely. A junk car is no longer worth fixing to its owner; it might still run. Scrap is what a car becomes at the end, when usable parts are gone and the remaining scrap metal is sold by weight. Salvage is the only one with an official meaning here: a status on the vehicle’s record, set when an insurer declares it salvage, and shown on a Vehicle Information Report. A salvage car cannot return to the road until it passes inspection. For old car removal the label changes nothing; a rusted shell and a written-off SUV ride the same flatbed. We take sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks and non-running vehicles in any condition, from a crashed wreck to a car on flat tires, and everything we collect goes for recycling. See how weight affects a scrap offer.

What to take out of the car before pickup

Check the glovebox, door pockets, under the seats, the trunk and the spare-tire well. Unclip the garage door opener and take any parking pass or gate fob. On a City of Calgary residential parking permit? Calgary Parking lets you update the licence plate on an existing permit. Remove the plate last; it stays with you, to return, move to your next vehicle or cancel at a registry agent. Call your insurer too. Leave the battery, wheels and catalytic converter in place, because our price assumes the car is intact. The paperwork is straightforward: the driver gives you a bill of sale when you are paid. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

My mechanic says the repair costs more than the car. Should I get a second opinion?

It rarely hurts. After an out-of-province inspection fail, the province says you may take the vehicle to more than one inspection technician before agreeing to repairs. If a second estimate lands in the same place, the repair is not worth it, and we pick the car up free.

The car failed its out-of-province inspection. Can I still sell it?

You can, provided the ownership document is in your hands. It cannot be registered in the province until it passes, and repairs after a fail must be done within 10 days or a full new inspection applies. Some owners skip that clock and let the car go as is.

Insurance wrote off my car but I kept it. What are my options?

If the insurer declared it salvage, one option is to repair it, with structural collision work done to manufacturer or I-CAR methods, then book a Salvage Vehicle Inspection, which the province says can take up to 4 hours. Or let it go as is: we buy written-off vehicles and tow them free.

Should I pull the battery or tires off before you come?

No. Our quote assumes the car is complete, so pulling parts usually lowers it. If something is already gone, say so on the call. Do take your belongings, the garage opener and the licence plate. The tow is free either way.

It still runs. Is it junk, or is a private sale better?

If it is safe, reliable, registered and someone would pay fairly, a private sale can make sense. If it needs major work, would fail an inspection or has sat for a season taking up space, private car buyers get scarce and rarely pay top dollar. Often the easiest way to get rid of it is one call: we give you a number to compare before you list it.

How do I check whether my car has a salvage status?

Order a Vehicle Information Report online or through a registry agent using the VIN. It shows the vehicle’s status, such as active, rebuilt or salvage, plus registration history and the number of liens registered in Alberta. Online orders need an Alberta.ca Account.
