TESTIMONIALS

Cochrane pickup details before you book

The Bow Valley has its own quirks for a tow truck, so read this before you call.

Highway 1A, Highway 22 and the driveways in between

We reach Cochrane from southeast Calgary by taking Stoney Trail to Highway 1A, then dropping down Big Hill into town, about 45 minutes in normal traffic. The Highway 1A and Highway 22 interchange work has changed the approach, so if you are in Fireside, Heartland or out on the Highway 22 side, mention it and we will plan the turn-in. Steep sloped lots in GlenEagles, Cochrane Heights and Sunset Ridge sometimes mean we load from the street rather than the driveway. Acreages toward Ghost Lake, Bearspaw and up Grand Valley Road are within our normal run; if the lane is a kilometre of gravel or gated, tell us so we send the right truck.

The vehicles Cochrane sends us

Cochrane has grown fast, past 32,000 people at the last census, and the mix of vehicles reflects it. On the new-subdivision side we collect the same commuter sedans and small SUVs as anywhere in the Calgary region. What sets Cochrane apart is the number of trucks from the acreages and ranches west of town: F-250s with rusted-out boxes, old Chevrolet three-quarter-tons that hauled horses and hay, and the occasional flatbed retired from a ranch decades ago. We also pick up camper-and-truck combinations where the truck died with the camper still on it, and AWD wagons that came back from Canmore with a cracked block. Work trucks are our bread and butter here.

What you sign, and Cochrane Plates, Licensing and Registries

We keep the paperwork short. You show us the registration certificate or another document proving you own the vehicle, we fill out a two-party bill of sale with the VIN and price, and you keep a copy. There is no provincial scrap program in Alberta and nothing to submit online; the bill of sale is the whole record. Pull your plate off before the car goes on the deck. The plate is yours to reuse or hand in. To close the file, take the bill of sale to Cochrane Plates, Licensing and Registries on Grand Boulevard, and cancel the registration or transfer the plate. Selling for a relative? Bring a power of attorney.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

My truck has no brakes and sits on a steep Cochrane street. Is that safe to tow?

Yes, that is a normal job for a flatbed. We chock the wheels, winch the truck straight up onto the deck and strap it at four points, so it never rolls under its own control. Too steep? We load from a flatter cross street.

Can you take the truck with the camper still on it?

Often, yes, depending on total weight and height. A slide-in camper on a three-quarter-ton is usually within our limits. Tell us the truck make and the camper length. If it is over height we take the truck and quote the camper separately.

Do you go out to acreages past Cochrane toward Ghost Lake?

Yes. The Highway 1A run west of town toward Ghost Lake and up Grand Valley Road is part of our regular Cochrane route, with no pickup charge. We just need a real address or range road, a contact number and warning about gates.

The vehicle is registered to my father who has dementia. Can I sell it for him?

Usually, yes. Bring his registration certificate plus your enduring power of attorney, or failing that, a signed letter of authority from him and your own photo ID. We write the bill of sale in his name with you signing as representative.

How long is the wait for a Cochrane pickup?

Same day is common for calls received before early afternoon; otherwise next day. Cochrane is about 45 minutes from our yard, so we group it with Bearspaw and northwest Calgary jobs. We call when the truck is on Highway 1A.

Do you handle vehicles from ranches south of Cochrane on Highway 22?

Yes, down the Cowboy Trail toward Bragg Creek and Priddis is within our range. Ranch trucks, old stock haulers and dead farm vehicles are a big part of what we collect there. For several vehicles at once, we send more than one truck.
